Thank you for your interest in serving with the Virginia Center for Restorative Justice (VCRJ). We invite you to attend our upcoming volunteer training, where you’ll be introduced to the powerful practices of restorative justice and the vital role volunteers play in healing communities.

    Training Details:
    Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
    Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: Room #203 (enter through Door #1)
Mount Vernon Baptist Church-11220 Nuckols Road Glen Allen VA 23059.
Please  contact VCRJ about the training if you have any questions.  This is not a church event as we are just using the room.

During the session, you’ll explore the foundational practices that shape our work:

    Circles

Participants gather in a respectful, structured setting to share their stories. A talking piece is passed around, giving each person the chance to speak while others listen actively. Healing happens when people are heard and understood.

“In the Circle, you taught me that I am worth something. I can have respect for myself and others because I am honest and trustworthy.” – Sandra

    Victim-Offender Conferencing

This process allows victims to ask meaningful questions—like “Why me?”—and to express what they believe would make things right. Offenders take responsibility and share their own perspective. Community members may also be involved, making space for truth, accountability, and restoration.

    Family Group Conferences

Used in child welfare, school discipline, and justice systems, this approach brings together family and supporters from both sides to collaboratively address harm. Juveniles learn to take ownership and return to their communities without guilt or stigma.

“This is a most amazing process. I’ve never experienced anything like this.” – Executive Employee

Please RSVP by May 12 by replying to this email or contacting us at Terrymoore@vcrj.org.  You may also click on the Buttons in the email. If you have any questions about the training or location, feel free to reach out.

Be on the lookout for the VCRJ volunteer application and the DOC application (this must be completed to volunteer with VCRJ).

We look forward to walking this meaningful journey with you.

    Warm regards,
    Terry D. Moore
